The Company's Challenge
Over the last few decades, large enterprises such as this large broadcasting company have been dependent on other smaller businesses, such as 3rd party vendors, to provide governance, development and support of their large and often critical internal applications. Businesses like this one have continued to evolve and change tremendously during this period to accommodate for changing technologies and workforce limitations. However, it has also created consistency and governance challenges for this and other large entities. At times, these outside dependencies were overall detrimental to this large company (as well as others like it) if not actively governed and monitored internally for adherence to their standards. Due to these potential pitfalls, it is critical for businesses like this broadcasting giant to have a well planned governance structure for 3rd parties that reduces the chances of deviation from those important corporate standards, especially when they are critical for their daily operations. After some time, they realized that managing these applications externally was not a best practice as these systems contain critical business information. It also became further apparent that it makes these systems vulnerable in terms of data security too as it wasn’t only residing on their secure network. To fix the issue for the future state of their environment, the company decided to work with Clovity to migrate all their business applications in house and manage by themselves. This was going to be a more cost effective and less vulnerable solution to data security threats.
The Clovity Solution
At Clovity, part of our practice is enabling our business partners to be technologically independent through our consulting, staffing and support services. We wanted to make sure our client had no dependency on outside vendors to run their Business as Usual operations as well R&D objectives. Our consulting and resource strategy, coupled with our understanding of their technologies, helped us to provide an innovative solution that resides within their pre-existing processes and technology infrastructure. Clovity built out a team of contract workers that are part of the company's ecosystem support structure to manage these critical infrastructure. We figured out a cost effective way to bring the work inhouse without hiring a whole team of full time resources (that can be a major cost to the company). By implementing this strategy, it helped this major broadcasting company to reduce delivery time, cut down on cross communication and work significantly more in step on internal stakeholders business requirements. Clovity provided this client with an Agile-based team who had significant expertise in AWS and then migrated all their business applications from a VMware environment. Originally this was hosted by the external vendor, which we then switched to an inhouse AWS environment. This enabled them to self manage these applications. During this whole project, we had to ensure no service outage with 24x7x365 support which was well achieved.
